What are the eligibility requirements for placement on the FHA Appraiser Roster?

To be eligible for placement on the FHA Roster, appraisers must:

  • Be state-certified in accordance with the minimum licensing/certification criteria issued by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation. The AQB of the Appraisal Foundation establishes the minimum education, experience and examination requirements for appraisers.  Each State and Territory further defines requirements which may be more restrictive than requirements set forth in the AQB Criteria for certified appraisers. All states and territories have an appraisal regulatory agency, which is responsible for certifying real estate appraisers, administering the comprehensive exam and supervising their appraisal-related activities as required by federal law.
  • Not be listed on the General Services Administration's Suspension and Debarment List, HUD's Limited Denial of Participation (LDP) List, or HUD's Credit Alert Voice Response System (CAIVRS)
  • Access FHA Connection to apply for placement on the FHA Appraiser Roster (or complete the recertification process)
