A basis point is a unit of measure used in finance to describe the percentage change in the value or rate of a financial instrument.
An easy method for converting basis points into a percent is to multiply the amount of the basis points by 0.0001, resulting in a decimal number. Multiply that decimal number by 100 to convert to a percentage.
Example: To convert 100 basis points into a percent, multiply 100 by 0.0001, resulting in 0.01. Multiply 0.01 x 100, which results in 1.0 percent.
1 basis point = 0.01 percent
100 basis points = 1.00 percent
125 basis points = 1.25 percent
