What is a Direct Lending Branch and what are its special registration requirements?

A Direct Lending Branch is a branch that

• is solely used for direct marketing to consumers; and

• only the internet, direct mail, or telemarketing is used in its origination operation to contact consumers.

The 10-digit branch office ID number assigned to a Direct Lending branch may only be used for this type of origination in those States where the lender meets applicable State licensing and origination requirements.

A lender may register a Direct Lending branch through the Lender Electronic Assessment Portal (LEAP) by selecting “Branches”, followed by “Add New Branch”. For more information refer to the LEAP User Manual located on the FHA Lender screen at https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/housing/sfh/lender/ accessed using the LEAP Information link in the Approvals & Renewals section.
